This city is a cancer.
Its architecture
a shimmering scab.
There are no sanctuaries left
for heavy souls
trafficked in misery
by pimps and bullies.
I've struggled with Adam,
been the first wife
and the last,
the mother of men
and monsters.
Bound in glorious agonies
to this warted jewel of man.
It's beauty made sacred,
turned grotesquery
in an instant.
Whores burn
on street corners
and even the purest
are cursed to misery
here.
